Artwork and Design Tips

Who Owns My Custom T-Shirt Design After It's Printed?

When you upload your logo, artwork, or original design to Bolt Printing, you might wonder who owns that artwork after it's printed on your custom T-shirts, hats, or other apparel. The answer is simple: your original artwork remains yours.

Quick Answer

You retain ownership of your original artwork and designs. Bolt Printing does not claim ownership of the designs you upload or create, and we don't reuse or resell your artwork without your permission. This applies to artwork you own the rights to, not copyrighted or trademarked material belonging to someone else.

Does Bolt Printing Own My Artwork After Printing?

No. Uploading your artwork to Bolt Printing or having it printed on custom apparel does not transfer ownership of your original design to us.

Whether you're printing a company logo, school design, event graphic, or custom illustration, the rights you already own remain yours.

We also don't reuse or resell your artwork without your permission.

What If I Create My Design in Bolt Printing's Design Studio?

If you create your own original design using our online Design Studio, Bolt Printing does not claim ownership of your original artwork simply because you used our design tools.

You can upload your own graphics, add custom text, and arrange your design within the available design areas.

Keep in mind that any third-party graphics, fonts, or licensed elements you use may have separate ownership or usage rights.

Helpful Tip: If you're working with a logo or artwork created by someone else, make sure you understand your rights to use that design before submitting it for printing.

Can I Print Copyrighted or Trademarked Designs?

If your artwork includes copyrighted, trademarked, or licensed images, you are responsible for ensuring you have the necessary rights or permission to use them.

Examples of artwork that may require permission include:

  • Sports Team Logos: Professional or collegiate team names, logos, and graphics.
  • Brand Logos: Trademarks or artwork owned by another company.
  • Copyrighted Characters: Characters or artwork from movies, television shows, comics, or other media.
  • Artwork Created by Others: Illustrations, photographs, or designs that you don't own or have permission to reproduce.

Printing these designs through Bolt Printing does not transfer their ownership to you or to us.

Important: Before submitting artwork for custom printing, make sure you own the necessary rights or have permission from the copyright or trademark holder. Purchasing custom apparel does not grant ownership of third-party intellectual property.
