Is your t-shirt design a vision test?
Tiny letters and details can be a problem, especially since they can get in the way of somebody understanding your design. After all, how can somebody process a message they can't read?
How small is too small? That really depends. However, if a member of our very-talented (and exceptionally gracious) customer service team mentions the design will be difficult to see, that's usually a pretty good sign. At a single glance, they can quickly spot when something might be too small. Remember: Our team is always looking out for you!
However, it's worth nothing that many font size problems can also be symptoms of other issues. For example, a design's text might be small because somebody is trying to fit too much into their design. Or maybe the priorities are misplaced, where certain elements are taking up too much space. By addressing these kinds of problems, you'll often find you have the space to make your text larger.
Also, this issue isn't just limited to text. Thin lines are easily missed and smaller graphics might not look like what they are. Many of these designs are difficult to print well, as being hard to see or understand.
Whatever the case, it's important to always remember that small details aren't just a small problem -- they can completely undermine your design. And when you enlarge your design, you very well may enlarge its impact and reach.
